In today's fast-paced world, we often find ourselves struggling to find meaning and purpose in our lives. The ancient wisdom of yoga philosophy offers us a clear path towards self-discovery and fulfilment, which is deeply rooted in the concept of dharma. In this blog post, we will explore the meaning of dharma, the role it plays in our lives as per yoga philosophy, and the guidance provided by the ancient yogic scriptures that can help us understand and fulfil our dharma.

The concept of dharma holds prime importance in yoga philosophy, as it encompasses the cosmic order and our individual place in it. Dharma is often translated as "duty," "virtue," or "righteousness," but its true essence is much deeper. Dharma is about understanding and living in accordance with our true nature or the innate potential that each of us possesses. There are, however, clues that can help guide us towards understanding our dharma. One such clue is to observe moments when we feel at our happiest and most fulfilled. Ask yourself, "Which tasks or activities make you lose track of time and leave you feeling enriched?" By answering such questions, we often find patterns and themes that are connected to our intrinsic strengths and natural inclinations. However, it is not always comfortable to be living our dharma. As in the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna did not want to go into battle, but Krishna, who was his charioteer said that he must go into battle, as this is what his dharma. Of course, this is level of interpretation of the Gita and what Krishna is saying, can be taken in many different ways.


The ancient yogic wisdom also advocates practicing mindfulness and presence as essential methods to discover our dharma. A consistent meditation practice helps us connect with our inner voice and gain insights into our values, desires, and aspirations. In our daily lives, we can implement methods such as journaling, self-reflection, and introspection to become more aware of our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. This growing awareness paves the way for a deeper understanding of our purpose in life.


Another important aspect of finding our dharma is to cultivate the right attitude and perspective. It's crucial to understand that our dharma may not be synonymous with what society labels as successful. Fulfilling our dharma requires immense courage, patience, and resilience; it often calls for us to step outside societal norms and expectations. Remember, when you follow your dharma, you are aligned with the Universe, prompting happiness and contentment to effortlessly flow into your life.


When you commit yourself to living your purpose fully and taking intentional action towards achieving your goals, you give yourself permission to reach heights that were previously unimaginable for you. You become more aligned with your true self because you stop dwelling on doubts or fears; instead, you focus on the positive aspects of what you can bring into your life by living out your Dharma. And by taking inspired action each day when faced with challenging situations or difficult decisions, you open yourself up to new opportunities that could never have been possible before.
